ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)

This is an outline description of what I have adopted with respect to ADSL hardware and an ADSL service provider. The report contained within should not be taken as a recommendation for any hardware or ISP.

No attempt is made here to provide comprehensive explanations of technical terms and no attempt is made to compare and contrast specific items of equipment and/or service providers. Further information about these issues can be obtained at adslguide.org.uk which provides volumes of up-to-date data and information pertinent to the subject.

My intention is to provide others with an opportunity to read a case study report on the process I undertook when deciding to install ADSL in my home through to the installation of the chosen equipment and registration with an ISP.

My situation: I required to have faster and simultaneous access to the Internet for at least two computers as well as have a land line to make telephone calls. At least one computer is an Apple Macintosh. I did not want to install a second land line and I did not want to pay more than £25 per month for Internet access.
