Who can register domain names?

The gTLDs .com, .net, and .org can normally be registered by anyone for any name, assuming that it's not taken already. There can be problems for example if you register someone's business name and they later want it and you really have no right to it other than you purchased it to extract money from the more legitimate user - eg if you purchased www.british-airlines.com. With respect to a country specific TLD there are often restrictions about who can register a domain name. Common restrictions include having to be a registered company or having to produce a trademark.
